Demo Recap - HD Supply White Cap in Sun Valley, CA

Solomon Colors conducted yet another educational demonstration at the HD Supply White Cap in Sun Valley, CA on May 9th, 2018. Like any other Brickform demo, this one was an excellent chance for staff and customers alike to develop familiarity with decorative concrete products and techniques.

This particular demonstration featured a concrete slab restoration and decorative concrete wall. An existing slab at the store location had minor damage associated with regular use. It was mechanically ground and patched. After the preparation, a low concrete block wall was constructed on the slab. A scratch coat was applied to the concrete block wall and the decorative portion of the demonstration was ready to begin.

First, demo attendees applied Brickform Vertical Mix to the scratch coated block wall. The Brickform Stack Stone vertical texture was used on the wall to create a rustic stone appearance. The Rough Stone seamless skin was used on the columns, along with hand-carved lines, to mimic large natural stone blocks. Afterward, Brickform ARTesian water-based stain was used to give varied and organic looking color to the stone pattern. As always, the Vertical Mix portion of the demo was a prime opportunity for hands-on involvement.

After the carved wall was completed, Chris Becker (Solomon Colors Director of Technical Services) applied Brickform Stampable Overlay to the prepared slab. The Stampable Overlay was applied without colorant. Liquid Release, colored with dark walnut powdered release, was used to antique it. Wood plank stamps were used to form a border while a seamless skin was used on the rest. A Concrete Dimensions compass rose medallion was applied prior to stamping to create a centerpiece imprint. Students later came back and stained the compass rose using ARTesian stain.

The finished product - featuring stamped overlay, a stenciled and stained compass rose, and a textured and colored wall - will serve as a lasting demonstration tool for the location.

Demonstrations like this are exceptionally beneficial as they help local contractors expand their skillsets, giving them better opportunities to serve their customers and earn more. Furthermore, it benefits materials suppliers because they can show their appreciation to their contractor base, grow demand for their products and services, and they end up with valuable show pieces at their location.
